Edward Meara: President
Ed Meara is an attorney licensed to practice in New York and California. He currently works as field counsel for the Liberty Mutual Group in San Diego with the law firm of Brownwood Chazen & Cannon. He is a graduate of Manhattan College and Pace University Law School. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable J. Daniel Mahoney, U.S.C.J, for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Following his clerkship, he became an associate at the international law firm, Coudert Brothers, working in their New York and Los Angeles offices. He learned German while serving in the US Army in Europe and studied Russian at the Tolstoy Institute. He also speaks Spanish and is a Graduate of the UCSD Executive Business Program in US Mexican Trade. Ed is the current president of the San Diego Chapter of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy. He is married to Cori Meara and has two sons: Mac and Mitchell.
 
   
 
Barbara Metz, Vice President
 
Barbara Metz: Vice President
Barbara Metz is a public relations practitioner who specializes in real estate, interior design and the arts. She has had her own firm, Metz Public Relations, for 18 years and contributes a considerable amount of pro bono work to the arts community in San Diego. Metz is the president of the San Diego Press Club and has chaired the organization's annual Journalism Awards and Headliners Awards. As a member of CDCSD since the mid '80s, she has entertained more than 100 International Visitors in her home. A student of Chinese martial and healing arts, Metz teaches qigong (CHI-GONG) at the Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego.
 
   
 
 

Peter Bickelmann: Treasurer
Peter relocated to San Diego two years ago from Michigan, where he retired in 1999 from  Community Mental Health Services  of Oakland County government.  He was the program's Deputy Director, responsible for budgeting, personnel, policy, publicity and program evaluation.  In Michigan he and his wife were also active for many years with the International Visitors Council.  He has traveled widely in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America and speaks German and a bit of French.
Peter is also active with the La Jolla Newcomers Club.  He is an enthusiastic supporter of the mission of  CDC, to create greater understanding of the U.S. and its people among visitors from all parts of the world -- and at the same time to enhance our understanding of other countries and cultures.

Fran Schultz: Secretary
Fran is employed by the Sempra Energy Law Department as a Legal Assistant. She previously worked at Science Applications International Corporation as an Executive Assistant for the Defense Technology Group. She has been a member of both the San Diego Vladivostok Sister City Society ("SDVSCS") since 1992 and the SDVSCS Board of Directors since 1997. She served as President of the Board of Directors of SDVSCS in 1999, and served as Vice President in 2000 and 2001. Fran has visited Russia several times and studied Russian at Mesa College. Over the past years she has hosted many Russian guests who participated in exchange programs in San Diego with SDVSCS and CDCSD. Fran is conversant in Russian and French.
 
   
 
 

Gabino Guerrero: Board Member
Gabino Guerrero is a San Diego Native and Alumni of San Diego State University. He has a diverse background with experience in education, firefighting, and as a business owner importing antiques from Asia.  Gabino has also lived in Germany working in the restoration business with individuals from various countries. 
He has traveled through Europe, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, Guam, and many other places embracing the culture and food.
He is an Alumni of Americorp National Service where he worked closely with the Union of Pan Asian Communities and several other nonprofit agencies.

Rolf Haas: Board Member
Rolf is an active community volunteer with SCORE, Jewish Family Service and the Central Labor Council and is a retired insurance executive.Rolf gives in-depth orientations for CDCSD's international visitors which includes cultural, economic and business information about San Diego County.He is a long time member of CDCSD and recipient of the Spirit of CDCSD Award in 2002 for his many years of dedicated service to the mission of the Council.Rolf attended SDSU and American College of Life Underwriters.

Ileana Ovalle: Board Member
Ileana currently serves as the Government & Community Relations Manager for Cox Communications, Inc. San Diego. Ileana, a native San Diegan, brings over fifteen years of government and community involvement experience. Throughout her career she has successfully strengthen philanthropy in the region by connecting, educating, and inspiring foundations and corporate giving entities. Ileana earned her master’s degree in nonprofit leadership and management from the University of San Diego and her bachelor’s degree in public administration from San Diego State University. She has earned numerous certificates from international and national institutions in the areas of French Language and culture, fundraising and development.

       
 
Lynn Hijar-Moya
 

Lynn Híjar-Moya: Ex-Officio
Lynn graduated from the University of San Diego with a Business Administration degree in 1998 and a Masters in Global Leadership in 2006.  She has four other related field professional certificates, including one from the U.S. Department of Defense at The Pentagon. She has been working with San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders as Director/Chief of Protocol since February 2006. Lynn previously worked for the Commander of Naval Air Forces as Director of Community Relations and Protocol, and for the San Diego World Trade Center as Trade Research Manager.  She enjoys drawing and traveling, and has visited over 50 countries. Lynn is bi-cultural, speaks Spanish fluently, and has studied Japanese and French.  She lived in Mexico City 10 years and has been living in San Diego since 1985.
