Citizen Diplomacy & San Diego Citizens
What’s the Connection?
And Why Should You Care?
True or False
- The world is in fine shape and we can discontinue diplomacy efforts and head to the beach.
- Citizen Diplomacy is a way one person makes an international difference.
- 80% of Americans do not have a passport.
#1 FALSE. Let’s not all head off to the beach just yet. You're a citizen (or even a greencard/visa holder)? YOU can be a citizen diplomat. JOIN US.
#2 TRUE. We make an international difference every day at Citizen Diplomacy Council. JOIN US.
#3 TRUE. So many citizens, so few passports. Apparently, many of us may not be going out into the larger world. So we bring the world to you; emerging leaders from over 145 countries came to San Diego last year via our work. JOIN US.
What’s the Connection?
At Citizen Diplomacy Council of San Diego, we believe diplomacy need not be left only to the professionals. Citizens are diplomats.
We regularly bring emerging leaders, chosen by our embassies around the globe, to San Diego and make it possible for San Diegans to interact with them.
Over dinner.
At one of their professional meetings they attend while here.
Or, at what we have come to call ‘ocean diplomacy’, to the beach with boogie boards! (Recently we took Russian judges to La Jolla Shores for a break. They had never seen a boogie board before. One of the judges said “I haven’t had this much fun in years and years.”)
Life-long connections, personal and business, are made by this ‘citizen diplomacy’ work.
Our aim is to make the world more stable, influence our reputation around the globe, expose other countries to ideas and approaches that may help them, and LISTEN.
And Why Should You Care?
More than ever, we don’t stop at our borders and coastlines anymore.
We are global whether we want to be or not.
Face-to-face diplomacy between citizens, (which is the work of Citizen Diplomacy Council of San Diego), creates long-lasting, positive global connections. We like to think our grandchildren will be safer, because of this work we do today.
